Best Carving Knife - Top 6
1. Victorinox 12-Inch Granton Edge
For starters, the quality of the Victorinox brand is unquestioned.
They have been made in Switzerland for well over a century.
Backed by a lifetime warranty against any material defects, this knife lasts when treated properly.
The knife boasts a non-slip handle and a flexible 12-inch stainless steel blade with a Granton edge, making it the ideal knife for slicing large slabs of meat.
The combination of the Granton edge and the round tip makes slicing easy and efficient. This efficiency is created by the ribs along both sides of the blade.
As the knife glides through the meat, air pockets are formed in the indentations allowing for an extremely smooth cut.
The only downside of this knife is the price tag. As you will see, this is the most expensive knife on our list.
However, the quality easily makes up for its price if you will be slicing meat more frequently than the average person. It makes a great brisket slicing knife.
2. Mercer Culinary Genesis 10-Inch
Mercer’s first knife on our list is the NFS-certified Genesis 10-inch.
This knife features a full tang stainless steel blade with a tapered edge and a bolster for added strength and balance.
Pros of this knife include a limited lifetime warranty, the full tang blade, bolster, and an easy to sharpen the blade.
Similar to most knives on this list, this Mercer blade is backed by a limited lifetime warranty. Because of its features, it is the best slicing knife.
Between the tang and the bolster, this knife has plenty of cutting strength. On top of this, most people will find the tapered edge easier to sharpen than the rounded edge found on Granton blades.
While not quite as expensive as the Victorinox, this Mercer knife is still relatively pricey. The other downside of this knife is that it has a slim handle with sharper edges. For longer projects, this could become an uncomfortable knife.
3. Mercer Culinary Millennia 14-Inch
Up next from Mercer is another NSF-certified knife, the Millenia 14-inch with a rounded tip and a Granton edge.
If you are looking for the efficiency of a Granton edge blade at a more affordable cost, look no further than this knife from Mercer.
As stated before, the ease and efficiency of a Granton edge blade are unmatched.
When compared to the previous Mercer knife, this knife has a much more comfortable, ergonomic, and safe handle.
The 14-inch stainless steel blade is large enough for any type of slicing you need to do. It is yet another knife backed by a limited lifetime warranty.
The only downside of this knife is the loss in cutting strength that comes with losing the tang and bolster that other knives feature. However, the efficiency of the Granton edge blade is likely to make up for this.
4. Jamie Oliver Carving Set
Up next is this carving set from Jamie Oliver. This set features a full tang, 7.5-inch stainless steel blade and a carving fork with curved prongs.
Once again, the combination of full tang and a bolster allow for added strength.
The stainless steel blade and prongs will not corrode.
While this is the more expensive set of the two on our list, it is still a reasonable price. Having the carving fork included makes both your buying and slicing experience easier. It is the best turkey carving knife.
The downfalls of this knife are the 7.5-inch blade, a 25-year warranty, and a slim handle with no ergonomic hand positioning.
You will be able to get the job done with this knife, but the smallest blade on our list may make it more difficult for you. While the 25-year warranty is respectable, all the other knives on our list have lifetime warranties.
5. Chicago Cutlery Walnut Tradition 8-Inch
The only wood handle knife on our list, this Chicago Cutlery 8-Inch knife will almost certainly remind you of the knife your grandparents used at holiday dinners when you were a child.
Featuring a full tang, stainless steel blade and a lifetime warranty, this blade provides strong, smooth cuts for the foreseeable future.
At an extremely affordable price, this knife would be perfect for the beginner looking to slice meat only a handful of times throughout the year.
In addition, the tapered edge makes it easier to sharpen the blade. It makes the best meat carving knife.
Cons of this knife include a smaller blade, no bolster, and the fact that it must be washed by hand due to the solid walnut handle.
However, it is a good idea to wash all knives by hand, despite the fact that some are sold as dishwasher safe. The lack of bolster may make the knife feel too weak to some, but the full tang blade provides plenty of strength.
6. J.A Henckels International Eversharp Pro Set
Last but not least is this extremely affordable knife set.
This set comes with an 8-inch, full tang, stainless steel blade with a tapered edge, paired with a carving fork with flat prongs.
For someone hosting their first holiday dinner, this is the ultimate carving set.
The full tang blade gives you the strength needed for most cuts.
When paired with the carving fork, you will be ready for just about any beginner slicing. This set has a slightly longer blade than the aforementioned set.
The knife handle is more ergonomic which allows for increased comfort. The price simply cannot be beaten. The limited lifetime warranty gives you peace of mind that this purchase will last until you are ready to upgrade carving knives.
For the price, there are not many downfalls to this carving set. The knife does not have a bolster and is only eight inches. However, it is hard to find too many issues at this price point.
